Dear MASA,

This past summer, I became ill while at our summer home in Sioux Lookout, Ontario, Canada. After two hospitalizations, it was necessary to further my treatment with my doctors in suburban Chicago. I was in pretty bad shape, and I needed to get home immediately. Although commercial transport was available to me, the cost of my emergency tickets was in excess of $1500.00. Unfortunately, I had no choice and booked the flights. After filing with Medicare and my supplementary insurance company, both of which denied my claim, I filed for the airline tickets charges with MASA. I was so very surprised when, within a few weeks, I received confirmation that MASA would reimburse my cost. My wife and I have been insured by MASA for shortly over a year. We are both retired from a very large school district. On Monday of this week, I asked to speak to our colleagues at an annual luncheon of 250+ retirees. Dear MASA,

I am writing this letter on behalf of my wife who is still recovering from major surgery. While traveling in our 5th wheel, Sylvia was diagnosed and treated through major surgery for three brain abscesses. She was admitted to the Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, Illinois on August 17, 2008 and was released on September 11, 2008. Subsequent to her release we traveled by commercial air from Springfield, Illinois to Phoenix, Arizona. Both Sylvia’s travel costs and the costs for returning our 5th wheel to Arizona were covered by our policy with your company. Your reimbursement of expenses was correct and timely. Probably the best part of the experience was that while we agonized through Sylvia diagnosis and exceptional care in Illinois, we had no concern for our financial ability to return to our home by the best possible means for Sylvia’s welfare. What an assurance to know that there would be no financial drain while in those very tough times. We rejoice that we had taken the opportunity to be a part of the MASA System of support. It’s our hope that we’ll never again have to utilize your services. But we know, should that time come again, you’ll be there to support us. Sylvia sends her thanks and shares that her health is markedly improved since returning home.
